A Family Business Founded By Big Feelers

Way back in the day I learned my craft from my dad. I helped him wood burn Loon logos on handmade paddles used for in-store merchandising for Northern Reflections.

Our Story

I forgot all about wood burning for years until one of my dearest friends was hosting a pop up market in Collingwood and I missed her terribly. I was desperate to see her so I invited myself and thought I could bring chef-made pickles and join her at the market.

When I went to my parents’ house the week of the market my mom showed me a stamped ornament and asked what I thought (most of the things my dad has created over the years have been her idea, “Bob, what do you think of this?! Do you think you could make...”). It was cute. My dad said, “What if we wood burned them?” I thought that sounded like a great idea!

When I came back the day of the market to load up my car my dad had a bunch of pretty rough but super sweet little ornaments (in the beginning he did all of the burning because I forgot I knew how) and I packed them up to bring with me.

I had my pickle sign but I thought, oh no, no one knows I’m bringing these, what am I going to call this?! My mom said “My Dad and I?” I of course said no. Then I said “My Dad and Me” and made a sign on my way out the door! People really liked the ornaments! So many friends were so supportive in the beginning and we are forever grateful!

I still make ornaments... I don’t sell pickles anymore.

Our Beliefs

My Dad and Me Everyday Ornaments continuously works towards starting and keeping important conversations around dismantling racism and oppression current, evolving and moving towards a more equitable and anti-racist future.

Through collaborations and conversations born out of the understanding that there is a need to start somewhere, we know that, in order for things to change, the real and challenging conversations need to continue. Keep talking at home and in community, recognizing injustices and speaking up when they arise. Our hope is folks feel empowered to call others into conversations that will foster an environment for change.

We are not professional anti-racist educators but we recognize the need for systemic change and the potential barriers standing in the way of these changes. We hope that by keeping the conversation going in our homes, in our communities and supporting financially when and where we are able through donations, we will be able witness shifts in our individual worlds that begin to ripple out to the world at large.
